Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 25, 2006 -- A new inspirational program, “From Children’s Lips to God’s Ear,” an easy-to-read book of simple, traditional prayers for children, packaged together with an audio CD with each selection voiced by a child, is set for Nov. 7 release. The book/CD gift set is attractively presented in a durable clamshell-style package, available at a suggested list price of $19.95 plus $5.95 shipping and handling, and may be ordered online at www.fromchildrenslips.com or toll-free at 866-929-PRAY (866-929-7729).
Created by screenwriter Steve Leake and read by his niece and nephew, Hamilton, age 9, and Carolyn Crane, age 7, “From Children’s Lips…” includes 22 timeless prayers from “The Lord’s Prayer,” “Lay Me Down to Sleep” and “St. Anthony’s Prayer” to “Rosy Apples,” “Two Little Eyes” and “The Guardian Angel Prayer.”
Leake loved the “Happy Birthday” recording his nieces and nephews left on his answering machine so much that he saved it and played it whenever he was feeling lonely while working out in Hollywood, Calif. Another source of comfort was the prayer cards his mother sent him. “I put the two together and recorded Hamilton and Carolyn in a recording studio near their home in Atlanta,” said Leake. “If you learn these prayers as a child, you never have to feel alone.”
The program was then “kid tested” on the other 22 nieces and nephews. Leake put the CD on while the children were playing and they all stopped what they were doing and gathered around the stereo. When he produced the book, they sat down and started reading out loud for themselves. “It’s a great tool for helping children settle in before bedtime,” Steve enthused. “It’s fun to read and listen to over and over again and something that parents can share with their children.”
Leake, who also performs as a stand-up comedian, was hoping to participate in a USO show welcoming the troops home and, when it was cancelled, offered to donate the programs as a comfort to servicemen and women’s families.
One hundred copies of “From Children’s Lips to God’s Ear” have been donated by Leake to Fort Bragg Chaplain Curtis Heydt, who has distributed copies to the families of troops being called up for duty. “They will go to the military children in our Army family,” says Chaplain Heydt. “For those children with mothers or fathers deployed, I am sure it will be especially meaningful and helpful.”
STEVE LEAKE: THE FUNNY GUY One of Hollywood’s top young comedy writers, Steve Leake’s career spans all aspects of the entertainment business, from stand-up comedy to recurring appearances on two of the top shows in Prime Time TV, “Seinfeld” and “Becker.”
Leake has written, produced and starred in an award-winning short film and created a number of hilarious film and TV scripts for such diverse audiences as The Sci-Fi Channel and The Family Channel. Recently he created the book/CD program “From Children’s Lips to God’s Ear” a collection of prayers recorded by children to help others learn the words.
Born in Memphis and raised in Oklahoma City, Steve has an incredible knack for mimicry, which served him well on the comedy club circuit for nearly 10 years. He has a stable of 20 plus celebrity impersonations that he began developing in 2nd grade, when he entertained his church parish with impersonations of the Monsignor and other local personalities. “I was bitten by the performance bug after I received my first laugh and have been honing my skills ever since,” said Leake.
A major movie buff, Steve’s photographic memory allows him to quote endless passages from even the most obscure films. “I love movies. I decided early on that I had to come to Hollywood and try to become a part of the ‘big picture’. I’m still writing for the entertainment industry, but glad to be back in Memphis, where I am also active in the family insurance business.”
A veteran of 46 “Seinfeld” shows and four years on “Becker,” Leake was a Screen Actors Guild extra on the series. “I’m in every show, passing Ted Danson as he enters the MTA (subway) on the opening credits, to sitting at a table or counter in the diner scenes. I’ve got this ‘everyman’ quality that let’s me slip into multiple characters on the show.”
Steve’s award-winning short film “Experiencing Raju” was created on a budget of $20,000. It’s a hilarious spoof of an Indian guru/con artist who inadvertently changes a man’s life for the better, resulting in an epiphany when he is revealed as a sham. “My friend Randy Carter directed. He was the production manager on Seinfeld and is the director on Becker. He arranged for a camera and operator, James Glenon, who shot “Return of the Jedi,” and they both worked for free!” The movie won the Seattle Film festival, the da Vinci Film Festival and the Silver Medal at the Houston Film Festival.
Last year he wrote “Hermosa Beach” and his film “Down Home Boys” is currently in development. It’s the story of two Oklahoma cowboys who inherit property in Los Angeles. Unfortunately or fortunately, it’s not in Beverly Hills or Bel Air...it’s in Compton. And the comedy flows from their interaction with the “hood” and a number of bizarre experiences.
“Sitting President” is another wacky comedy about an injured postal worker who gets the President’s ear through some phone calls that reach the oval office. They hit it off and he begins advising the President on a number of national matters. Soon enough it is clear that a couch potato is running the country.
His children’s TV series “The Secret Life of Hamilton Crane” is now being presented to a number of networks as a family series. “It’s about a young boy who has a gift for solving mysteries. Every night when he goes to sleep he is able to work out the details to a troubling problem in the neighborhood and present the solution the following morning.”
Leake’s fertile imagination, natural good humor, his love of TV and his devotion to film is a winning combination that has endeared him to a number of Hollywood insiders. Soon he’ll be taking his inner world to the small and big screens so that others can enjoy his creations…and hopefully get the “big picture” as well.
