Travel Social Networking Website Travelhiker.com Launches Revenue-Sharing Feature for Interactive Travel Guide Writers

The social networking travel website Travelhiker.com has launched a new feature by which members can sign up as designated city travel guide writers and share in the advertising revenue generated from their page. The Travelhiker Project is an interactive travel guide which aims to map the best of the world’s local knowledge for different types of travelers.

Harrogate, UK (PRWEB) November 7, 2006 -- Travel community website www.Travelhiker.com has launched The Travelhiker Project - the world’s interactive travel guide. Members are invited to sign up to write detailed and personalised guides to particular cities or areas and then can share in the advertising revenue generated by the adverts displayed by Google on their page 50/50 with Travelhiker.

Members of the Travelhiker.com travel community are already able to write travel blogs and reviews, share travel photos and even find travel companions for free since the site’s launch two months ago. As a designated city reviewer they are now able to earn money. Members can create detailed city guides, insert their Google AdSense ID in their profile and earn when people visiting their page click on the adverts displayed there. Payments to contributing city guide members will come directly from Google and an AdSense account can easily be opened by anyone.

The Travelhiker Project is unique for a number of reasons. Members who sign up write a detailed profile about themselves highlighting what kind of traveler they are - backpacker, with pets, with family, or interested in culture for example - and then give a title to their city guide, e.g. A gourmet’s guide to Paris or backpacker’s guide to Sydney. The city (or cities) could be the member’s home town or somewhere they know well from their travels. They can then post their own recommendations about what to do, where to stay or where to eat for example as well as uploading important upcoming events at that location and links to useful websites.

It is an interactive guide because visitors to that page are able to leave comments or post questions on the Travelhiker guide’s page which can then be answered by that person or by someone else in the Travelhiker forum. There is no limit to the amount of guides that can sign up for a particular location as people will identify more with certain profiles than others. This is how the Travelhiker.com travel guide differs from other user-generated travel guide websites - it is a more personalised experience and the reader gets to know more about the reviewer.

"The success of this service for the contributors depends on generating large amounts of traffic for the site but we are confident that as The Travelhiker Project gathers momentum, this can be achieved," said James Holmes, founder of Travelhiker.com, “the best thing about it for the writers is that they can earn money this year, next year and the year after that for creating really good, personalised travel guides. And hopefully it will be fun. ”
