Montreal, QC (BILLBOARD PUBLICITY WIRE/PRWEB) November 10, 2006 -- The finalists for the 6th Annual Independent Music Awards were recently announced, and the independently produced documentary film "What is INDIE?" made a huge splash in the "Best Song Used in Film/TV" category by getting 2 songs into the top 5 as finalists for the award.
The nominated songs are "We Can Take Care of Each" by Philadelphia artist Gina Kaz and "Citysong" by Montreal artist Andrea Revel. The 3 other nominees in the category are songs used in productions by major studios Fox Searchlight, ABC Family and the WB.
"This is yet another example of the ever-changing landscape in the entertainment industry, where do-it-yourself artists and productions can now compete directly with major studios and record labels."
- Dave Cool, Director, "What is INDIE?"
Judges for this year's awards include Peter Gabriel, Ozzy Osbourne, Cyndi Lauper and Suzanne Vega. More information about the 6th Annual Independent Music Awards can be found online: http://www.musiciansatlas.com/pages/IMAFinalist/
A True Indie Success Story: Without any prior background in film (except for watching Super-Size Me "way too many times") and funded entirely with his own credit cards, Montreal director Dave Cool has taken "What is INDIE?" from a small do-it-yourself project and turned it into an indie success story in its own right that continues to turn heads in the music and film industries, even catching the attention of CNN.com, Newsweek Magazine and Canada's National Film Board.
