An excerpt from the book follows:

"I was up early that historic Tuesday morning and was stunned when, over my shortwave radio, I began hearing snatches of news of the terrible terrorist attack. I immediately called Sharon, who was back at our home in California, watching the horrific events unfold on TV. She was crying and in shock. It is still hard to comprehend even as I write this. Misguided religious zeal has caused untold harm throughout history.

The FAA grounded all domestic planes indefinitely, including my plane. No guides or pilots in Alaska were able to fly and thus were powerless to check on the hundreds of hunters stranded in remote field camps. A fortunate few who could be reached by river or all-terrain vehicles were contacted and rescued.

One pilot friend of mine tried desperately to fly in supplies to a hunter he knew was low on food and water. He was forced down by military F-14 fighter planes. He said their meaning was real clear when they showed him their trigger fingers, followed by a thumbs-down sign. He didn't even have to know any military codes. This was a national crisis and way beyond serious, but here in Alaska, our hunters were in serious peril too."
