New Book Shares Private Thoughts of a Great Boss -- Without the Warm Fuzzies Just out from Blue Point Books, "Harry Says: Boss Talk Without the Warm Fuzzies" is a refreshingly candid glimpse into the mind of a successful boss. This little book offers new perspectives on the age-old problems of being a boss. Santa Barbara, CA (PRWeb) November 28, 2006 -- Blue Point Books has just published a sharp, insightful book based on the notes a successful CEO wrote to himself in a small, spiral-bound notebook he kept in his desk. Described by Brent Clanton, host of The Morning Show on the BizRadio Network as "... absolutely brilliant and (something that) should be in every boss's library", Harry Says has just the right point on almost every management issue. It's the perfect Holiday gift for anyone who manages people.
The background story of the book is almost as interesting as the book itself. Bruce Feldman, the editor of Harry Says, met Harry years ago when he went to Harry's company to do research for a movie for television. Already a CEO running one of several successful companies he headed over his long career, Harry took a liking to Bruce, and they became good friends.
"Harry constantly came out with these sharp, witty sayings about being a boss," says Feldman. "He knew more about business and people than anyone I'd ever met. I kept telling him to write this stuff down because I knew it would make a great book, but Harry always changed the subject."
Until Harry died, Bruce thought Harry wasn't interested in the idea. Then Harry's daughter found the small notebook Harry kept his desk. It was filled with his thoughts, instructions telling her to give it to Bruce, and a note to Bruce saying he could do with it whatever he wanted as long as he didn't use any real names. Bruce decided to turn it into a book that looked as much like the original as possible.
"Harry was very candid and funny, but he deals directly with the challenges and realities of a boss's life," says Feldman. "He has a way of getting to the core of things very succinctly that has impressed every boss who's read it, regardless of the size of their business. There are always a lot of heads nodding in agreement as well as laughter when they go through the book. Then they all want to get books for their friends."
Here are some excerpts from Harry Says:
- "There is something about the urge to be your own boss that overrides the rational mind." - "We shouldn't have to hire anybody who doesn't come with a money back guarantee." - "I have a rule against trying to do business during meals. Most people can't hold an idea and a fork at the same time."
