"I can't believe these stores are opening at Midnight! Who will be shopping then?" With those words, Colby Hollifield, owner of www.KozyK-9.com, started trying to figure out how to compete for the expected crush of Day-After-Thanksgiving shoppers.

His answer, albeit not exactly revolutionary, was to drop prices on his products to the lowest levels ever and start before everyone else - 1 minute before to be exact. "I was amazed to read in the LA Times that stores are actually opening at Midnight on Thanksgiving," reports Hollifield. "That means they're either incredibly optimistic or really desperate. Either way I've got to figure out a way to compete. I guess I'll have to open at 11:59," laughs Hollifield.

For a small business, being able to compete is especially critical during the holidays. A good holiday season can either make or break some businesses and with an uncertain economy this year, many retailers are nervously optimistic.

"Hopefully with gas prices dropping, this year will be as good as last" says Hollifield, echoing the sentiments of many retailers, both large and small.
