Gibraltar Software, Inc., Introduces Automated Patch Management for Linux

Market Leader Continues to Set the Standard for Comprehensive Automated Patch Management Solutions

Gibraltar Software, Inc., the leading provider of cross-platform, automated patch management solutions announced today the addition of Automated Deployment for Linux security patches onto its flagship product, the Everguard System. System Administrators and IT professionals now have an effective and efficient way to help secure and manage Linux servers and desktops with the help of Everguards remediation service.

Patching the network has been a long, drawn out, cumbersome problem for most system administrators, and while most administrators keep their keystone systems up to date, non essential servers and desktops remain un-patched. By not patching these systems, administrators are leaving their networks open to a wide variety of exploits from hackers, viruses and Trojan horses. The amount of patches has grown three fold in the last year, and most system administrators can not keep up with the deluge. With the Everguard System, a system administrator can expect to spend a few hours a week managing the patching posture of the entire network, 1000s of machines (Windows, Solaris, Linux). Without the Everguard System, it could take more than 25 hours a week to patch just one hundred systems.

While the first release of the Everguard System tackled the awareness of which patch and which system problem, system administrators wanted to see the patches deployed automatically after they had had the opportunity to check the validity of the patch. Gibraltar Software, listening to its customers, put an all out engineering effort to complete this process.

Other features of the Everguard System include:

-    Software Management: Software inventory management capabilities let you know just what is running on your network

-    Web Browser Access: Allows for management from any system connected to the Internet

-    Hardened Appliance: Easy to deploy, easy to maintain 1RU pc based appliance

-    Reports: Very extensive and easy to manage reporting tools

This new product enhancement will not only give network system administrators the ability to keep up to date on all of the latest patch releases", says Graham Hine, founder and CEO of Gibraltar Software, Inc., it also gives them an automated path in deployment of those patches to the vulnerable machines, therefore, ensuring the network is just that much more secure".

Until now, patch management solutions focused solely on Microsoft products, and while Gibraltar Software manages the patching posture of Servers, Desktops and Laptops running different flavors of the Microsoft Operating Systems, other mainstream operating systems also need patching. The Everguard system currently manages operating systems from Linux, Solaris and Microsoft, with short term plans in place to incorporate other operating systems, applications software and network devices, such as routers and switches.
