St. George, Utah (PRWeb) December 18, 2006 -- The Ledges of St. George is thrilled to report two exciting wins on the pro golf circuit by its Director of Golf, Colby Cowan. Cowan traveled to Jamaica teaming up with 3 amateurs, including Ledges partner Randy Deschamps, in The Jamaica Invitational Pro-Am. He was able to bring home first-place honors in the Individual Pro Division, beating out 40 other professionals from golf clubs around the globe for the honor.
Although Cowan, a respected tournament player, doesn't generally enter tournaments outside the region due to his responsibilities at his club, the opportunity to represent The Ledges in Jamaica's "Annie's Revenge Tournament" was one he felt was too good to pass up. "Jamaica itself was beautiful, of course, and the tournament was phenomenal," Cowan stated upon his return stateside. "I've played in a lot of tournaments, but this one was very challenging due to the difficulty of the golf courses and the depth of the field. A really great experience overall."
Cowan's victory included a round at the White Witch course, named after a plantation owner known only as Annie who, island legend maintains, had a murderous streak with numerous slaves, lovers, and even husbands cut down by the "White Witch." "It's a very difficult course with tough playing conditions, so I can understand why they named it after her," chuckled Cowan.
It seems Cowan enjoys the taste of victory. At his very next tournament, the Utah State Pro-Assistant, The Ledges Golf Professional also captured a win, shared with his Assistant, Paul Holden. The PGA Sanctioned event was held in St. George, with Professionals from Utah teeing up at Coral Canyon Golf Club and at The Ledges Golf Club. After two days of the best-ball tournament play, Cowan and Holden claimed the win.
Cowan has been in the St. George region for the past 9 years, most recently working as Head Golf Professional at Coral Canyon before taking the helm at The Ledges. He brings a professionalism and breadth of experience that is hard to match at any Golf Course Community. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities overseeing facilities, programs and staff at The Ledges, Colby will soon have another welcome responsibility - opening the much celebrated and anticipated Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf, the centerpiece of golf instruction at The Ledges Golf Club.
The Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf, when completed in early 2007, will feature 3 separate climate-controlled teaching bays comprised of a Jack Nicklaus coaching studio for instant player feedback, state-of-the-art video capture and analysis software, putting lab, golf fitness programs, and a short game practice area designed to Nicklaus Golf standards. These amenities and opportunities to improve the golf game are unmatched by any area golf club, and are a welcome addition to the 18-hole Matt Dye designed Ledges Golf Club.
