Palo Alto Writer, 77, Starts New Career in Fiction: World-Traveling Consultant and Author Launches First Fiction Book

Seven years after retiring from a career in international consulting, Louis Fried has launched a new career as an author of short fiction and fantasy with his book "Other Countries/Other Worlds." His fiction appeals primarily to adults who have a broad viewpoint and who may enjoy stories set in Paris, Kilkenny, San Francisco, and other places in the world (or out of it).

Palo Alto, CA (PRWeb) December 30, 2006 -- Louis Fried, residing for years in Palo Alto, CA, was not content to simply retire and travel at 70. He returned to his boyhood love of writing fiction. His efforts are bolstered by detailed memories of working, living, and adventuring in countries from Asia and the Middle East through Europe, the South Pacific, and America.

His stories have won several awards from the Writer's Digest and the Palo Alto Weekly, and have been published in several magazines.

Fried started working on his parent's farm in central Pennsylvania during the Great Depression when he was nine years old. In the early 1950s he found employment in what was then known as data processing and worked for over 45 years in information technology.

Fried spent 20 years as an international consultant and senior manager with Stanford Research Institute (SRI International). During his years with SRI, he worked on projects in 30 countries, published two graduate textbooks, and wrote hundreds of articles and papers in information technology and management.

He left SRI in 1998 and he finally retired at the age of 70 after serving as special advisor to the president and head of information technology for Telus Corporation in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Since his retirement, Fried divides his time between his homes in Palo Alto, CA and Jerusalem, Israel; continuing to travel from both locations. He is now working on new stories in anticipation of his next book.

His stories encapsulate his lively imagination and often illustrate his sense of the ridiculous, which he claims to have inherited from his mother.
