Funnelback Invents Superior Indexing System for Document Annotations

Funnelback has lodged a provisional patent application for an invention to provide an efficient form of indexing documents based on external descriptions.

(PRWeb) January 9, 2007 -- Funnelback has lodged a provisional patent application for an invention to provide an efficient form of indexing documents based on external descriptions.

The new invention will retrieve information based on a unique annotation index structure independent of the traditional inverted index.

Funnelback Chief Scientist, Dr David Hawking says, "State of the art search engines rely heavily on information external to a document to determine its ranking. This information can include link anchor text, folksonomy tags and external metadata. Efficient and accurate indexing of external annotations is likely to be critical technology for the future."

The invention will be integrated into a new search service for a beta government client early next year and is due to be publicly available in the first half of 2007 with the release of Funnelback 7 (www.funnelback.com).
