Retired Marine Publishes First Novel Using POD Technology – The Non-Traditional Future of Publishing

After moving to a small town, a young man falls for a girl with an abusive ex-boyfriend while trying to solve a friend’s murder in this compelling mystery.

Manila, Philippines (PRWeb) January 10, 2007 –- Lawrence Parrott followed the traditional method when he wrote the first draft of his novel “Redemption Point” in the late 1980s. He sent the manuscript out to dozens of publishers only to receive rejection letters months later, if at all. Eventually, like most people, he gave up. Then in 2006 he found an old tattered printout of the original manuscript and decided to resurrect the project using today’s technology.

In the last 20 years a new online industry had evolved — self-publishing using print-on-demand (POD) technology and Internet marketing and sales. After another edit, he submitted the manuscript to iUniverse.com, a leading self-publishing company that calls its method “supported self-publishing.”

Parrott’s debut novel tells the story of Zack Taylor, a laid off Detroit auto worker, and Kate Jenkins, a waitress from a small Kentucky town. Zack realizes he needs a change so he withdraws his savings, packs his Camaro, and heads south. Kate, who recently freed herself from her abusive boyfriend, desperately wants to escape the small town life she despises. Their lives intersect when Zack exits the freeway in search of a tank of gas and a meal. He has no idea that his arrival in town is the catalyst that will trigger a chain of events eventually leading to murder.

“Redemption Point” is available for purchase on iUniverse.com and all the other major book selling web sites including Barnesandnoble.com, Amazon.com and many others world wide.

Recent review of “Redemption Point:”

“A big-city boy finds love and redemption in a small town… his rendering of the cruelties of life in a poor small town is honest and heartfelt, and centered upon sympathetic and well-developed main characters, whose stories continue in the author’s next novel.” — Kirkus Discoveries
