New Deal Broadens Paycheck Secures Adoption by the Hispanic Community

Herndon, Va. -- November 11, 2002 -- Biometric identification leader BioPay, LLC announced that Cardenas Supermarkets have adopted BioPays Paycheck Secure to stop check-cashing fraud and drive revenue for its stores throughout southern California, including San Bernardino, Riverside and eastern Los Angeles County. Paycheck Secure is the nations most popular biometric check cashing system and has been used to process more than one million transactions totaling more than one-half billion dollars.

BioPay recently signed a deal with Lopez Supermarkets that brought Paycheck Secure to six Lopez locations in Brownsville, Texas and one location in Harlingen, Texas. Since June, Lopez Supermarkets have increased their check cashing revenue by 23%, enrolled nearly 11,500 customers and cashed nearly 22,000 checks with Paycheck Secure.

Paycheck Secure is a voluntary system that uses biometrics to track a customers check cashing history. If the person is associated with any negative transactions, advanced alert mechanisms warn the clerk, enabling the transaction to be declined before it is processed saving the store money it may have otherwise lost. A customer with a history of positive transactions allows the merchant to cash the check with confidence.

The check cashing system lets affiliated stores share customer information in real-time. This allows store employees at every location to access a customers enrollment information and check transaction history with a fingerprint scan. There is no need for the customer to enroll at each location.

Cardenas Supermarkets and Lopez Supermarkets serve predominately Hispanic communities, with each store offering popular check cashing services. Many of their customers are unbanked" and use the chains financial services as a means of cashing payroll checks, paying bills and meeting other monetary needs.
