Los Angeles Metro Community-Based Service Sectors Plan Public Hearings

Metro Seeks Public Input on Proposed Service Modifications

Los Angeles, CA (PRWeb) January 30, 2007 -- All five Los Angeles Metro (http://www.metro.net/default.asp) community-based service sectors will hold public hearings in early February to receive community input on proposed Metro Bus service modifications and enhancements. Approved changes, following the public hearings and formal adoption by the service sector governance councils, will become effective June 24, 2007 or later.

Service enhancements being considered include implementation of a new Metro services in Los Angeles: a rapid line along Santa Monica Boulevard, the implementation of a new Rapid Express service on Wilshire Boulevard and the creation of two new lines in the San Fernando Valley. Metro is also seeking public input as it begins studying a possible express line that could operate between the North Hollywood Red/Orange Line Station and the Pasadena Metro Gold Line with stops in Burbank and Glendale.

The following is a list of times and locations of the five service sector public hearings planned for February:

• Metro San Fernando Valley Sector, February 7, 2007, 6:30 p.m., Marvin Braude Constituent Service Center, 6262 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys

• Metro Gateway Cities Sector, Feb. 8, 2007, 5 p.m., The Gas Company, 9240 Firestone Blvd., Downey

• Metro South Bay Sector, Feb. 9, 2007, 9:30 a.m. Carson Community Center, 801 Carson Street, Carson

• Metro San Gabriel Valley Sector, Feb. 12, 2007, 6 p.m., SGV Sector Office, 3369 Santa Anita Ave., El Monte

• Metro Westside/Central Sector, Feb. 14, 2007, 5 p.m., La Cienega Tennis Center, 325 S. La Cienega Blvd., Beverly Hills

The service proposals to be considered at the public hearings can be seen on the Metro website (http://metro.net/news_info/press/Metro_007.htm#TopOfPage). The proposed service modifications are designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the bus system through better use of resources. The public may attend any of these public hearings and comment on proposals of interest to them.

These proposals may be approved in whole or in part at a date following the public hearings. Approved changes may also include other alternatives derived from public comment. All public comment received will be forwarded to the responsible Los Angeles Metro Sector Governance Council to be considered prior to taking action on the service change proposals.

Persons unable to attend the hearings may submit written testimony postmarked through Feb. 14, 2007. All written testimony should be addressed to: Metro Customer Relations, One Gateway Plaza, 99PL4, Los Angeles, Ca. 90012-2932, Attn: Service Changes June 2007. Comments can also be sent via e-mail with Service Changes June 2007 as the subject or fax to 213-922-6988.
