Perfectly Paired IPv6 and P2P Meet Again at the P2P Media Summit NY

IPv6, the quintessential peer-to-peer (P2P) technology, joins other P2P innovations at the P2P MEDIA SUMMIT NY. Limor Schafman, President of KeystoneTech Group and of the IPv6 Forum-Israel, will join a panel of P2P experts to discuss new technologies in e-commerce, financial, consumer, and advertiser transaction tracking, and media payment systems at the Distributed Computing Industry Association's (DCIA) P2P MEDIA SUMMIT NY, on Tuesday, February 6th, at the Princeton Club of New York.

(PRWeb) February 7, 2007 -- Peer-to-peer (P2P) technologies continue to grow in sophistication, diversity of usage, and market impact. Identified as transferring as much as 70% of all data between computers, the market for P2P applications continues to explode. One technology that will have impact on the P2P world is IPv6, a natural pairing for P2P communications and transactions. "IPv6 is, at its roots, a peer-to-peer technology," says Limor Schafman, President of KeystoneTech Group and the IPv6 Forum-Israel. "With the infinite IP address space that IPv6 brings, every object that carries an electrical current can have a global IP address, and receive and transmit data. All of a sudden, commercial P2P has a whole new landscape of possibilities."

With the billions of cell-phones, cameras, TVs, radios, PDAs, iPhones, Zunes, Wiis, sensors and like devices that will soon have IP addresses embedded within then, P2P will become a de facto means of transferring data to and among people and devices. "We are on the cusp of a communications revolution," says Limor. "The "smart" road, kitchen, café, bathroom vanity closet are all now possible because IPv6 allows for a simpler and less expensive network infrastructure."

Members of the IPv6 community also recognize strong market appeal for the P2P protocol in the digital media arena if it can address such issues as digital rights management (DRM), content protection, transaction tracking, and consumer usage tracking. "The inevitable migration to IPv6 will open new vistas for P2P to accelerate its commercial development in ways that benefit consumers, ISPs, content rights holders, and software developers," said DCIA CEO Marty Lafferty. "Limor Schafman's participation in the P2P MEDIA SUMMIT NY will ensure that the implications of IPv6 are understood by P2P industry participants.

IPv6 transition and deployment is gaining momentum in the United States given the US federal government mandate that all federal agencies be "using" IPv6 by June 30, 2008. Federal CIO's are hard at work finding solutions to the IPv4 toIPv6 transition process. The corporate community is only beginning to awaken to the business opportunities IPv6 offers in product and application development. "Vista's Office and Home release, both of which default to IPv6 Internet network connections, are the beginning of what we in the IPv6 world, hope will be faster adoption in the United States," says Limor. "The P2P marketplace needs to begin incorporating IPv6 capabilities in its product strategy and development. The snowball has started down the hill, and we will see a gain in its momentum."

The DCIA P2P MEDIA SUMMIT NY takes place all day Tuesday February 6, 2007 and the IPv6 session will be at 3:45pm (http://www.dcia.info/P2PMSNY2007/). It is followed by the 2007 Media Summit New York (MSNY) http://www.digitalhollywood.com/MediaSummitReg.html), February 7-8, 2007
