Los Angeles, CA (PRWeb) February 18, 2007 -- Chelsea, 14, is a busy eighth grader at a prestigious all-girls school in Los Angeles. Having recently launched her own radio program, she combines schoolwork, sports, and producing the next installment of "The Chelsea and Lisa Show." Sitting across from her in studio as co-host is her mother, children's lifestyle expert and author Lisa Dunn-Dern. The two have developed a unique format for the show, dealing with subjects of interest to both young teens and their parents, with viewpoints -- some different, some the same -- expressed by both generations. The one-hour live program features both teenage and adult guests, plus a special feature, the monthly 'Hit List.' Listen at www.globaltalkradio.com, Tuesday, February 20, 4:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
On Tuesday, February 20, it's 'Words and Music: How 'Vocab Rock,' a Unique Book and CD, Helps Kids Study for Tests.' Special guest is Keith London, founder of Defined Mind, Inc. London left the business world to focus on education and literacy, and recruited New York City club bands to write and produce the songs on the 'Vocab Rock' CD. The bands were charged with using the vocabulary words in context of song numbers that would otherwise be the bands' regular style. There are 12 songs -- hip-hop, rock, rap and country -- with a total of 313 vocabulary words that commonly show up on SAT/ACT tests. The 'Vocab Rock' CD is enclosed in the 'Vocab Rock' workbook, which contains exercises to reinforce the definitions and uses of the words. It is a fun, effective way to learn vocabulary while enjoying the music. 'Vocab Rock' is available at Amazon.com and at bookstores throughout the country. For more information about Defined Mind, go to www.defmind.com.
Another text, 'Vocabulary Accelerator '01,' is used in several school districts. It contains the same CD. Schools are reporting a definite trend to higher grades on the tests as well as vocabulary tests in English classes. Students have been playing these songs on their car's CD player, on their Ipods, and whenever they want to just hang and listen to great music.
About Chelsea: At the ripe age of 14, Chelsea has many accomplishments to be proud of. An eighth-grader at a leading all-girls school in Los Angeles, her favorite subjects are history and math. Discovered by a top modeling agency at age nine on the beach at Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, Chelsea set aside her burgeoning after-school career in front of the cameras because the auditions conflicted with her team's basketball practice. Coming from a family with a strong tradition of philanthropy, Chelsea finds many ways to be of service to others. For example, immediately after Hurricane Katrina, Chelsea spearheaded a drive to collect enough bottled formula and diapers for 100 babies and brought it to a truck leaving for New Orleans.
About Lisa: Wife, mother, theater director, and author, Dunn-Dern has been a TV series writer, produced and directed large-scale children's theater productions in Los Angeles. In her new children's book, 'Dr. Duncan Dog on Duty!,' the family's dog visits sick children in the hospital every week. Beautifully illustrated, it will be published in April. She produces and hosts a series of entertaining educational spots for ETV Ethiopian Television. Dunn-Dern's commitment to children's learning and literature has been recognized with awards and an endowment in her name at Seeds/UES, the laboratory elementary school on the UCLA campus. Her unique, upbeat outlook and parenting style have become a favorite with listeners.
