Seattle, WA (PRWeb) February 21, 2007 -- Carol Mayer, DVM has been hired as the first Program Director for the newly established Veterinary Technician Program at Pima Medical Institute, 9709 3rd Ave, NE in Seattle.
Mayer, a resident of Port Townsend, has been a veterinarian for almost 20 years. She obtained her B.A. degree in Zoology from Cal State, Fresno and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis.
"Pets are family and their health is of the utmost importance," said George Borchers, campus director for the Seattle career college. "Dr. Mayer's love of people, animals and medicine, as well as her experience as a skilled veterinarian makes her the perfect person to head up our new Veterinary Technician Program. We are happy to have her as part of our team."
Graduates of the Veterinary Technician Program receive an Associate of Occupational Studies degree for Veterinary Technicians. The first class will be an evening program and is scheduled to begin Feb. 26th . The new program is 15.75 months for day classes and 18 months for evening classes.
The curriculum includes: veterinary technician nursing skills; pharmacology; radiology; surgical assistance; laboratory procedures; laboratory animals and exotics; large animal medicine; emergency medicine; general sciences and humanities; dentistry and a Veterinary Technician externship.
In addition to the Veterinary Technician program, the Seattle campus offers career training for Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Radiography and Veterinary Assistant.
