New Book Asserts That Reform in Haiti Depends Upon More Than Economic or Social Factors

Scholar, theologian, and G.O.C. University founder, Dr. Fritz Olivier, proposes a moral approach to reform Haitian quality of life.

Silver Spring, Md. (PRWEB) April 8, 2007 -- A new book from Dr. Fritz Olivier, "The Relevance of Christian Education for Lay Pastors in Haiti: A New Vision," addresses the role of Protestant Christian faith in Haiti today. Dr. Olivier's key message, intended for foreign missionaries, pastors, and laity -- as well as students of Protestant religion and Caribbean culture -- is that certain steps must be taken in order to teach and encourage a faith that "engages reflection and produces results," both spiritually and with regard to the state of Haitian socioeconomics.

Methodically and intelligently, Dr. Olivier said he outlines his observations and conclusions for approaching the problems of poverty and violence in Haiti successfully. According to him, "lay ministers," or pastors, hold the initial responsibility to educate themselves both academically and in the Christian faith in order to help bring about this change.

The pastor of a Haitian church in the United States, Dr. Olivier discusses the relevance of African Traditional Religion (ATR) in Haitian Protestantism. Based on observation of how ATR affects both practice of religion and daily life in Haiti, Dr. Olivier emphasizes that in order to improve quality of life in this region of the world, moral and spiritual development must first be accomplished.
