Heritage Microfilm and The Aiken Standard Partner to Provide Historical Newspaper Content

Thousands of newspaper pages detailing South Carolina's history are now available.

Cedar Rapids, IA (PRWEB) April 19, 2007 -- The Aiken Standard, a daily newspaper in Aiken, South Carolina, has signed a microfilming and digitization contract with Heritage Microfilm, Inc. Heritage will be filming and offering digital archives of all Aiken content dated from 1871 until present.

"The Aiken Standard is a tremendous resource for researchers everywhere," said Jeff Kiley, General Manager of Heritage Microfilm. "By filming and digitizing the newspaper back to 1871, we're preserving not only national stories that made headlines in Aiken, but also local news about the events and people of South Carolina."

Libraries, historical societies and educational institutions can soon access this rare content in both microfilm and web-based digital formats through Heritage Microfilm's P3 program. This program, designed to bring libraries and historical societies together with newspaper publishers, offers more than just traditional microfilm subscriptions. Institutions will soon have the option of receiving access to a digital archive website with fully searchable newspaper pages from The Aiken Standard.

Content from The Aiken Standard will also be featured on NewspaperARCHIVE.com, the largest historical newspaper database available online. With more than 63 million newspaper pages dating as far back as 1759, the archive is a valuable primary resource.

Heritage Microfilm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is an archival microfilm and digitization company.
