Bice's Florist is Tops in Southlake Times Readers' Choice Awards

Bice's Florist customers made their voices heard in the Southlake Times 5th annual Readers' Choice Awards, naming the popular company the Favorite Florist in Northeast Tarrant County.

Fort Worth, Tex. (PRWEB) April 20, 2007 -- Readers of Star Community Newspapers' Southlake Times have named Bice's Florist their favorite in the news paper's 2007 Readers' Choice Awards.

The chain of local newspapers annually conducts reader preference polls at the beginning of the year to determine readers' favorite merchants and service companies. Southlake Times subscribers voted over a 10-week period using paper ballots printed in the paper each week.

Mimi Filbin, a sales executive with Star Community Newspapers, said reader interest and participation in the Readers' Choice Awards continues to grow each year. "The paper didn't make it popular, our readers did. It's up to them to get involved, and they certainly have," Filbin said.

All balloting is done by hand on printed ballots. Readers must take time to mark ballots - in as many of the 123 categories as they wish - fold them and mail them in to be counted by a disinterested party. Outcomes are carefully guarded and kept secret until the paper announces the results.

Filbin says the newspaper staff prefers paper ballots to electronic because the process tends to engage those most serious and passionate about the event. "We've stayed with hand balloting, instead of going electronic, because we feel people who are interested enough to take time to fill out a ballot and mail it provide a more accurate accounting of reader interest," Filbin said.

The 2007 awards mark the fifth year the Southlake Times has conducted the poll and the first win for Bice's Florist. Bice's co-owner Keith Riewe said employees were thrilled to get the award. "We work hard to provide a great product and incredible service to our customers," Riewe said. "This is great affirmation that our customers appreciate it."
