Protokraft Announces Successful Appeal of ITAR Classification

US Department of State reverses ITAR Classification Decision - Protokraft components now exempt from ITAR export licensing requirements.

Kingsport, TN (PRWEB) April 21, 2007 -- Protokraft, LLC, a leading provider of optical communication components for harsh environments, today announced the successful appeal for reclassification of its products by the US Department of State as ITAR export restricted. "Effective, March 11, 2007, the US Departments of Defense, State and Commerce has reclassified our products as exempt from the restrictive ITAR export licensing procedures" said Robert Scharf, president of Protokraft. "Now, Protokraft components are subject only to the normal export administration procedures of the US Department of Commerce opening up vast new export marketing opportunities."

"Protokraft found many potential export customers in Europe, Asia and the Middle East were unable or unwilling to utilize ITAR controlled material due to uncertainties in the processing time for export licenses under the complex ITAR administrative requirements. Protokraft Lightning Series bulkhead mounted Mil-Dtl-38999 optical transceivers with Mil-T-29504/04 optical interfaces were designed for military, aerospace, industrial, broadcast or utility applications where significant levels of shock and vibration and extreme temperature ranges are experienced. These components integrate the functions of 1, 2 or 4 optical transceivers into the shell of a standard Mil-Dtl-38999 optical connector. These components are ideal for use in tactical systems where compact size, weight reduction and resistance to harsh environments are highly valued.

Protokraft's Mil-Dtl-38999 optical transceivers are available in a wide range of bit rates and protocols, including Fast Ethernet, 1x/2x Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet and Serial FPDP. All versions are fully compliant with the applicable IEEE, ANSI or InfiniBand Architecture Specification requirements.

Designed to operate in harsh environments, these new transceivers feature excellent thermal characteristics, high tolerance to vibration and shock and shielded aluminum housings, for exceptional EMI/RFI performance. Standard case operating temperature range is -40oC to +85oC, with a standard storage temperature range of -55oC to +100oC. All operate from a standard +3.3Vdc power supplies.
