Erick Roldan, a science teacher at Piner High School in Santa Rosa, CA, has been named the first Mean Teacher of the Month by MeanTeachers.Com - the web site with the email address for the best teachers. The monthly contest is open to all - with the monthly winner being featured on the MeanTeachers.Com home page.

Erick teaches 9th grade science and AP When he isn't being a mean teacher there, he plies his trade as a mentor at San Francisco's Exploratorium. Explaining why he is a mean teacher, Roldan says:

As in life, I believe that students should be "stimulated" by their surroundings... so when my advanced classes get a little too serious, I have a few MEAN stimuli in my repertoire of MEANNESS."
