Airline Low Airfare Guarantees Put to Test

FareCompare puts low fare guarantees to the test and finds, with some persistence, you can get a refund.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) April 24, 2007 -- FareCompare.com released today the results of its test of airline low airfare guarantees (http://www.farecompare.com/articles/cheapest-airline-guarantees/same_day_cheapest_airline_ticket_guarantees_hype_or_hope.html), rating Delta Air Lines best for overall customer experience. Airlines have been promoting their low airfare guarantees to alleviate consumer anxiety when purchasing a ticket. Based on FareCompare's testing it is possible to get a refund if the price drops before midnight on the day of your purchase, but persistence is essential.

Rick Seaney, FareCompare's Chief Consumer Advocate, purchased tickets on American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines. He knew that the prices were going to go down by using FareCompare's Airfare Email First Alerts. Once the fares did go down, he started the claims process and detailed his findings in his report.

His conclusion: very few consumers are actually using the low airfare guarantees and airline customer service representatives are not familiar with handling the requests. In the end Rick was able to get refunds from all of the airlines, but it did require a greater investment in time than most consumers would be willing to spend.
