Blessings from a Boxcar, Recounts the Story of a Young Woman Rescued Her from the Confines of a Boxcar Melissa Frantz's first book, Blessings from a Boxcar, reveals an inspiring true story of two young children abandoned in an old boxcar in the mid-1960s. Frantz felt compelled to write her story because she believes strongly in adoption and her faith in God. Leakey, Texas (PRWEB) April 30, 2007 -- Holy Fire Publishing releases Blessings from a Boxcar (Paperback, US$13.99, ISBN# 1-933899-88-3). Melissa Frantz brings her story to life in compelling realism, returning to the beginning of her life as two-year-old Melissa living in a corner of an old boxcar with her six-month-old sister. Her birth mother essentially abandoned them and for a while they were looked after by drifters, including one man with a "gentle face and an uneven growth of red whiskers."
When Frantz's soon-to-be adopted mother and father entered the picture, her diaper pins had rusted shut, and the diaper had to be cut off. One of her first warm memories was of a bubblebath the same night her new parents brought her home. Her words take you back to that night: "My new mother gently lifted me out of the tub, and as the bubbles and water dripped away from me, I was met with a sensation that I could not remember feeling before. Gone was the dirt and grime of my past. Gone was the feeling of utter loneliness and helplessness. … When my adoptive mother pulled me out of that bathtub, I was reborn."
Blessings from a Boxcar represents the life of one fortunate young woman as she comes of age in a situation not of her choosing--being abandoned at age two. Deep down, this story is how Frantz came to terms with her birth, birth mother, adoption, and her faith. Her faith in God has been her rock over the years, and she has attempted to repay Him by teaching children and adult Bible classes. She has also attended Bible College hoping to start her own ministry one day.
The abandonment of babies and children has become an important issue to Frantz, and she desires to bring attention to it through Blessings from a Boxcar. In fact, in 1998, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services show:
- 30,800 abandoned babies in hospitals - 105 abandoned babies in public places
Melissa Frantz, 44, lives with husband Michael and their son Matthew. Their home is in the Hill Country region of Texas. She teaches Bible classes to teens and young adults, and she is passionate about sharing the love of God.
