Spa Week Launches Travel Wellness Getaways

The goal at Spa Week is to take a leadership role in educating consumers on the benefits of the spa lifestyle. Our mission is to teach people that massages, facials and other treatments, combined with a healthier diet and regular exercise, can have a profound, long-term affect on a person's health. Best of all, unlike a trip to the doctor, the spa lifestyle can be both cost effective and incredibly enjoyable -- making it a welcome method of prevention. Spa Week has become the complete resource to a healthy lifestyle by offering content on our website year long that will help consumers to live a more relaxed, healthy and stress-free life.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 8, 2007 -- Spa Week announces the launch of Wellness Getaways, a spa wellness program that focuses on well-being, highlighting the ways in which spa services can help alleviate a host of health- and fitness-related issues. A number of spa resorts and destinations across the country are joining forces with Spa Week and offering a variety of wellness travel packages to the consumer. This new program might help move spa visits back to the "necessity" column on your life list as Spa Week works to make spa-based wellness an important part of a healthy lifestyle.

Wellness Getaways has created four categories in which a consumer can select their wellness packages. Categories include: Mind & Body, Fitness & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Health, and Wellness Spa Services. This month, some of the top resorts and destinations throughout the Unites States are participating which include: Cal-a-vie, Red Mountain, Miraval, Pacific Waters, Skana Spa at the Turning Stone, Golden Door Spa, Hosteria Las Quintas, Deerfield Spa, Rancho La Puerto, Fitness + Serenity, Cooper Aerobics Center, Canyon Ranch, Lake Austin, Birdwing Spa, and Green Mountain on Fox Run.

Health care in this country is in a crisis, with little foreseeable end in sight. Along with a record number of un-insured Americans, adult and childhood obesity have reached epidemic proportions, while new illnesses -- or new strains of old ones -- are testing our medical resources and our bodies' abilities to heal. Taking its cues from centuries of holistic medicine and naturopathic practice, western medicine has started to acknowledge the positive results that quality spa services can have on overall health.

Before there were prescription drugs and high-tech surgeries, there were spas. For centuries, healthcare professionals would send patients to "take the waters" at curative hot springs, seaside resorts or holistic retreats, with the belief that natural remedies, potent ingredients and physical relaxation could help ease symptoms and improve health. But then, medicine became "modern", and spas were relegated to the "indulgence" category.

These days, though, spas are back to being serious business, as an ever-growing number are evolving into wellness centers and offering services that work towards long-term heath goals. Of course, pampering or grooming services like mani/pedis, waxing and body scrubs are still popular, but an increasing number of spa menus are reflecting a higher, healthier purpose.

In keeping with this shift, our mission at Spa Week is to serve as the Complete Resource to a Healthy Lifestyle.
