Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) May 7, 2007 -- The "Under the Blue 2007" International Underwater Photo & Video Competition deadline is May12th. With over $20,000 in prizes up for grabs in this prestigious event, it is sure to attract images from across the states and across the globe.

UNDER THE BLUE is one of a series of competitions that help bring this unique imagery to the general public," says Jason Heller, one of the competition organizers.

On the heels of the prolific Our World Underwater & DEEP Indonesia competitions, which received entries from amateur and professional photographers and videographers from over 30 different countries, popular underwater imagery websites Wetpixel.com and DivePhotoGuide.com have teamed up with the 2007 SCUBA Show to develop a competition exclusively for amateurs and hobbyists. Winners will be announced online and exhibited at the 2007 SCUBA Show in Long Beach, California, June 2nd - 3rd.

Photographers will compete in four still image categories, including a category for images that focus on California's unique and beautiful underwater environment, and one video category. Winners will share from a prize pool that includes trips to some of the top photo destinations in the world including Fiji, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, South Africa and Australia, as well as underwater photo and video equipment.

A percentage of proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.
