JOBS AUTHORITYS CHRISTMAS TALE Indefatigable Chekmayan utilizes personal adversity to inspire others. Spurs jobless to be pleasantly persistent. New York, December 11, 2002 /PRNewswire/ -- Tactical Sales Professionals, Inc. When Ara E. Chekmayan, president of Tactical Sales was born, he was given his last rites two times. He lived but the doctors were forced to do tests on the infant, drawing blood from his hip and thus destroying his growth plate leading to his right leg becoming shorter than his left. That was 29 years and 19 operations ago. Today he is fast becoming the new motivational and communications authority to be reckoned with. He has recently lectured at CUNY, SUNY, The Nassau Coliseum, The Queens Chamber of Commerce and will be speaking this spring at the Jacob Javits Center for the Incentive Show.
Chekmayan, an authority on job acquisition skills, gained his most valued commodity through the school of life. What I teach, among other things, is the art of being pleasantly persistent. Without that quality you are not going to get what you want out of life and you certainly will not get the job you desire" he said.
During his early years Chekmayan endured 19 operations on his leg, a process that was not simply physically draining but emotionally devastating. When asked he said Sure the operations were frightening, but more painful was the disruption of my life at school." He never attended kindergarten or first grade because of the surgeries and his grade school life was marked by constant medical related interruptions. The greatest challenge was rejection by my peers, I was in and out of classes and I looked different because I was almost always on crutches ... kids can be cruel and I had my share of being made fun of and being beaten up."
When the other children were out sledding and making snowmen, young Ara was immobilized and left sitting at home. I memorized 'A Christmas Carol because that is what was played on television year after year. I suppose I identified with Tiny Tim." Ask Chekmayan to recite 'A Christmas Carol now and he will do so word for word.
Today Chekmayan is a young man without a trace of self-pity. The only remnant of a hard early life is a slight limp and the use of a cane. Like the sickly child who grew to become Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United States, Chekmayan, weaned on adversity, is now a leader in personal empowerment. More then ever he has been called upon to help get people back to work.
In 2000 I was working on the 81st floor of World Trade Center One and left that year to form my company. Consequently, I was gone when the attacks occurred on September 11th, 2001. Still, it touched me personally. My way to give back has been to utilize the sales, communications and motivational skills that I train companies with and to speak to the unemployed about how they can use those abilities to find work," he said.
His firsthand understanding of adversity has transformed him from simply identifying with Tiny Tim to leading people beyond their own limitations. Whether it is teaching people how to get the job of their dreams or staying committed to their forthcoming New Years resolutions, like Teddys cousin FDR, he shows people through his dynamic training and personal achievement, that there is nothing to fear but fear itself."
