Diamonds International Joins The Battle Against Breast Cancer Diamonds International, a leading fine jewelry retailer in the Caribbean helps fight breast cancer with the "Linie" diamond pendent that will promote breast cancer awareness. A percentage of sales will be donated to further efforts in treatment of breast cancer. New York, NY (PRWEB) May 11, 2007 -- There's no doubt that it takes a team effort to achieve difficult goals. And when it comes to finding a cure for cancer, it's not one person - but millions - who strive every day to reach that goal. From scientists to doctors to philanthropists, each plays an important role.
Most recently, Diamonds International, one of the largest jewelry retailers in the Caribbean, joined in the battle against breast cancer after being inspired by the Porthole Golf Classic. The company announced the launch of a new pendent that will promote breast cancer awareness, and from which 5% of the sales will be donated to the University of Miami and its Jackson Memorial Foundation and its center for breast cancer treatment and research. The one-of-a-kind creation is called "Linie" in honor of Irene Panoff's late sister, who lost her battle against breast cancer at the young age of 35.
'This is wonderful news,' said Panoff. 'And the fact that it's named after my sister makes it that much more special. I am very honored that they have chosen our event to donate their funds to.' Created by a team of designers, the ribbon-shaped pendent is made of rose gold with diamonds and there are two styles from which to choose: a 0.25 ctw, which retails at $499, and a .50 ctw, which retails at $999.
"Diamonds International (http://www.shopdi.com) is proud to lend support to all of those people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer," said Albert Gad, co owner of the company. "I feel it is the responsibility of large companies to promote and contribute to breast cancer research to keep the public aware of the strides that are being made and of how much further there is to go in finding treatments and an ultimate cure. With the significance of the breast cancer ribbon and the emotional value of diamonds, the Linie pendent symbolizes the strength, love, and commitment demonstrated by so many individuals across the globe in their unique battles of survival."
The Linie pendent will join the Journey Diamond Jewelry line by DeBeers, which includes designs for weddings, anniversaries, childbirth, and more. The pieces in the collection feature a series of stones set in increasing size, which symbolizes life's journeys. 'The Linie pendent represents the journey that she went through,' said Natalie Toraty, merchandise manager of Almod Diamonds Limited, the parent company of Diamonds International. The pendent will be sold in DI stores that feature the Journey collection (approximately 25 and more in the future) as well as on the Web site, www.shopdi.com.
'We have no intention of discontinuing it,' said Toraty, adding that they will continue to donate the percentage, as promised, from the non-negotiable retail price. ' Linie would have loved having a piece of jewelry named after her,' said Irene. 'And she'd be pleased with how far we've come in terms of breast cancer awareness, detection,'and treatment.'
