Better Off Rock'd Targets Suicide Prevention

Newly launched organization raises awareness for suicide prevention.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) May 18, 2007 -- Austin-based non-profit organization and concert promoter Better Off Rock'd wants to save lives. The non-profit, dedicated to raising funds and awareness for suicide prevention, has announced its first concert series aimed at rock music fans ages 15 -24.

The June 2007 lineup for concerts is already booked with a Billboard Top 10 charting group of bands including Seventh Day Slumber, Everyday Sunday, Nevertheless, and Stephen Speaks. . For more information on the bands and their upcoming record releases please hit http://www.BetterOffRockd.com .

The show is being promoted through radio markets including PowerFM 89.7 Dallas/FW and PowerFM 106.7 Georgetown/Austin. Station DJs and vans will be at both concerts and are supporting the shows with on-air shirt and ticket giveaways.

The Austin concert will be held at the historic landmark La Zona Rosa on June 8th, 2007 at 6:30pm. The Fort Worth, TX concert will follow the next day at the historic Ridglea Theater on June 9th at 6:30pm.

Depression affects more than 19 million people each year in the US. In any typical high school classroom, it is likely that three students have made a suicide attempt in the last year. Among college students, there are an estimated 1,100 suicides yearly (an average of 3 per day). Better Off Rock'd is a rock concert promoter and non-profit 501C3 charity that wants to prevent suicide and empower suicide awareness - eliminating the shame and stigma sometimes associated with suicide.

"We are also committed to finding ways to reach out to young people. We are primarily interested in targeting the friends of potential victims so they can help save their friend's lives. " said Eric Klein, founder of Better Off Rock'd.

Better Off Rock'd provides 25% of net proceeds directly to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 25% to state and local suicide prevention charities and the remaining 50% to building Better Off Rock'd suicide prevention programs.

Better Off Rock'd will soon be producing an audio podcast hosted by Casey McPherson, musician and lead singer of the band AlphaRev - http://www.alpharev.com.

McPherson will be interviewing artists, musicians, students, actors, athletes and parents from all over the country in terms of how suicide has affected their friends and families. "It is all about real people, real stories, and real music," said Klein. Each interview will also include questions about music, a favorite artist, and how music positively affects their lives. The podcasts will be available from various Internet locations, including iTunes® with an anticipated fall launch date.
