NFL's All Pro Kerry Rhodes Creates 'Catching With Kids' NY Jets Safety Kerry Rhodes, in Association with the RHODES Foundation, Visits Students with a Message About Succeeding Against All Odds and Catching Opportunities. New York, NY (PRWEB) May 21, 2007 -- New York Jets standout safety, Kerry Rhodes, will be in the Bronx, NY on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Public School 1 (P.S.1), known as the Courtland School located at 335 E 152nd Street, Bronx, New York.
Kerry will toss encouraging words and footballs with at-risk students in an effort to show them that it is possible to catch all opportunities that are thrown in their direction. "Catching with Kids" is one of Kerry's new initiatives through his RHODES foundation that provides direct mentoring in the form of discussion and skill building.
Kerry will "catch" up with the students verbally and play "catch" with the students physically in hopes that the combination of the two will allow the students to learn how to "catch" more opportunities in life.
Kerry, the ultimate success story, grew up in Bessemer, Alabama where he survived challenging circumstances himself. He used sports as his outlet as he excelled in football and basketball, and was able to obtain a football scholarship to the University of Louisville in Kentucky. At Louisville, Kerry earned a Bachelor's degree in Communication, with a minor in Theatre Arts. These days, Kerry can be seen dominating the defensive backfield of the New York Jets, as well as giving back to the local communities that support him every fall
Kerry established The RHODES Foundation in 2006 to address the Reaffirming Hopes Of Dream Endearing Scholars living in America's impoverished neighborhoods. The mission of the foundation supports the educational and financial advancement of young people in underserved high schools nationwide. On June 30, 2007 in Bessemer, Alabama the RHODES Foundation will hold its first annual celebrity charity basketball game to raise funds for this and other RHODES Foundation initiatives.
Living by the saying, "If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it," Rhodes is challenging the limitations associated with disadvantaged schools and their students. Kerry's foundation, The RHODES Foundation, and his visit to The Courtland School reflect his commitment to excellence, social change and personal growth.
The students will have the opportunity to take pictures, ask questions and listen to a successful individual who can relate to their struggles and serve as living proof that all dreams are achievable and that you can catch a break if you are prepared to receive it. Through endeavors such as this visit and his foundation, Kerry will be speaking with the third graders a 1pm and the forth graders at 2pm.
This school visit to the Bronx supports his foundations goals and is a very special visit to Kerry. We hope you will join in support of this effort as Kerry continues to have a positive, lasting impact on the lives of the members of his community.
