NIUSR Announces Founding of The Alliance in Conjunction with the Opening of the World Disaster Response Summit The president and founder of the National Institute for Urban Search and Rescue (NIUSR), Lois Clark McCoy, announced today the addition of NIUSR as a founding member of "The Alliance." NIUSR is meeting for their mid-year conference during the World Disaster Response Summit May 30 - June 1, 2007 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
NIUSR looks forward to meeting with Alliance partners as well as leaders in the field of emergency response. The Summit includes many exhibits from industry, government, and organizations whose purpose is to save lives and property during emergencies.
Founded in 1977 NIUSR attracts high level executives and experts from government, military, emergency management, academia and industry with the purpose of assisting to prepare and respond to disasters of man or nature. Using technology and learning from past emergencies, NIUSR will remain on the front lines of emergencies while working with an alliance of like-minded organizations. The National Institute for Urban Search and Rescue, Inc. has been doing valuable work in a wide range of fields from enhancing citizen emergency preparedness, to pushing for more effective command approaches under ICS for domestic disasters. Their many dedicated "Eagles" come from a wide variety of disciplines, civilian, military, industry, intelligence and academe. They work to facilitate cooperation among disparate entities, as well as have direct involvement in emergency situations. Founded in 1977 by Lois McCoy NIUSR's latest initiative is Community Readiness and a National Integrated Communications Expressway, a model for how a national system could work for interoperable communications and decision support.
