Denver (PRWEB) June 2, 2007 -- Architectural firm Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative (OLC) announced today that design work for the 35,000 square-foot Sports Center at Glendale's new Infinity Park is complete, and another 21,000 square feet for conference and event space is currently in design.

Denver-based OLC, which specializes in the design of recreation, fitness and aquatics facilities, will continue to work with the City of Glendale and Turner Construction on the Infinity Park project as it proceeds toward the fall 2007 stadium completion and the spring 2008 opening of the Sports Center.

OLC was chosen by the City of Glendale to be the design lead in the creation of the 5,000-seat, all-events stadium and two-story sports center, in conjunction with landscape architects and planners Design Studios West.

The athletic field will be built with a state-of-the-art turf system, similar to the grass at Invesco Field at Mile High. Sized primarily to fit a regulation rugby pitch, the field will also be used for multiple sports, entertainment and community events. This will be a first-of-its-kind, community built and run, rugby facility in the United States, and Glendale officials expect it to attract competition that will draw fans nationwide.

Built adjacent to the existing gymnasium, the Sports Center will include fitness, exercise rooms, children's programs, and lockers for users of both the center and the outdoor field. The additional 21,000 square feet of conferencing space is intended for community and corporate events, and is slated to open late 2008.

"This is an exciting project for our firm primarily because of the opportunity to work closely with Glendale officials to create a unique venue that will become the hub for social events in Glendale," said OLC Senior Principal and Project Designer Doni Visani. "Of course, we also relish the design challenge of grouping these disparate program elements and bringing out an exceptional experience to the existing civic setting."

OLC and its consultants developed drawings for the field, stadium and conference center that are visually influenced by the existing Fire Station and City Hall, but with a decisively classical twist, evoking an aura of traditional sports stadiums

"The most important user of this space is the Glendale resident, and OLC is helping us design this facility with that in mind," said Glendale Mayor Pro-Tem and Planning Commission Chair Mike Dunafon. "We will have many activities available, from fitness to concerts to sporting events -- all emphasizing Glendale citizens' needs and desires."
