Who would Jesus bomb?

Summerland, California -- January 2, 2003 -- "What are you, nuts? Jesus wouldn't

bomb anyone, nobody should." Says Gary Paudler who, with Barbara Gundy created www.whowouldjesusbomb.com to offer their t-shirts bearing the question. "We?ll do well to break even" says Gundy, "The object is to provoke a little thought, not to start an apparel company".

The couple started participating in Santa Barbara?s weekly peace march where thousands of citizens took to the streets. "The response to our "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" sign got us thinking that we might have a message that would resonate with a lot of people, if we could get it out there. It?s not quite substantial enough for a TV show, so we naturally chose the t-shirt medium ". Says Paudler. Gundy notes: "We have smalls, larges and XLs too".

They were a little annoyed when the "What would Jesus drive?" movement hit while their shirts were being printed. "But that?s also a good message", admits Paudler, "And not unrelated. A lot of people think that it is our profligate consumption here in the United States that has incurred the ire of much of the world, and that an invasion of Iraq would be largely to support our addiction to cheap oil. We don?t think that Jesus would have wasted a resource or killed anybody to secure its supply"

Is "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" a Christian message? "Well, yeah." says Gundy, the "duh!" in her tone. "Muslim and Buddhist too. Our creative team is comprised of Christians, Jews and atheists. You don?t need to associate with a specific religion to embrace the principles for which Jesus stood. It is religious fervor that has been used to justify so much violence in the world. Is a ?good Christian? one who wants to drop bombs on desperate men, women and children? Acceptance, compassion, understanding and love are messages attributed to Jesus and qualities to which we might all aspire."

Paudler said that they welcome inquiries from peace-promoting organizations and that they will be glad to discount shirts and arrange secondary printing. "We are looking forward to shipping shirts with "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" on the front and Temple Bnai Brith? on the back". He says.
