DSS Networks, The Gigabit Experts™, Today Announced a New Reduced Cost 12-Port PICMG 2.16 Compliant Gigabit Ethernet Backplane Switch Fabric Card Targeted at High Volume OEMS

The model 8260 features 12 ports of 10/100/1000 Base T Gigabit Ethernet over Copper. It is PICMG 2.16 6U fabric card compliant and compatible with both standard CompactPCI® and PICMG 2.16 backplanes. Any or all of the 12-ports which are not used in Node slots on the Compact PCI packet switched backplane (PSB) may be connected externally via a 12-port RTM.

Lake Forest, CA (PRWEB) July 13, 2007 -- DSS Networks announces an addition to their PICMG 2.16 line of CPCI fabric switches with a higher performance, reduced cost 12-port Compact PCI PICMG 2.16 compliant 6U switch fabric blade targeted at high volume users -- demonstrating further commitment to quality board and system level products targeted for OEMs, VARs and Systems Integrators of embedded systems targeted for Telecom, Military, Datacenter and Industrial applications.

MetroSwitch Model 8260. It has an onboard RISC processor for local management and can be operated as a standalone "plug-and-run" or fully managed switch. LEDS are provided for each port showing link status, transmit and receive and link quality. All LEDS are multifunction and can be used for additional functions including cable testing and energy detection. It is also PICMG 2.1 R2.0 hot-swap compliant providing support for the hardware connection layer. As a custom order option, it also supports two 1000 base SX/LX gigabit fiber ports with standard SFF LC connectors via the front panel.

The model 8260 uses the latest advanced high-performance, full-featured and highly integrated 12-port Broadcom BCM5696 L3+ switch and BCM5464SR quad-port transceivers and is fully 802.3 compliant. It provides a fully non-blocking 24Gb/32 million frames per second aggregate switching fabric. The switching function supports an extended list of features including layer 3 switching, link aggregation, 802.1Q VLANs, 802.1D STP/RSTP and priority-based 802.1D/802.1p CoS/traffic class expediting and dynamic multicast filtering. The switch can be configured in a fully redundant, non-blocking network that prevents single points of failure from congesting network traffic. It provides advanced cell and packet based "head of line" blocking prevention techniques, has 1MB of onboard memory for packet buffering, and can support a 10-gigabit uplink interface as a custom order option. Extended ethernet frame sizes to 9KB are supported. Additional advanced features including rules-based layer 2-7 packet classification/filtering on 128 multiple data flows. Port trunking and port mirroring are also provided for advanced networking and flow techniques. Fully configurable L2/L3 routing tables and RMON, SNMP, Ethernet and extended MIB(s) are also supported. A 32-bit, 66 MHZ PCI interface is also provided to support both a data and management plane via the PCI bus. The data plane can be used for management or application payloads and together the data and management planes allow a fully managed switch solution using network management software packages from a variety of vendors offering support for the popular Broadcom StrataXGS line of switch chips. This allows the Model 8260 to be used in most existing network and switch management deployments as the Broadcom switch devices are widely supported.

The MetroSwitch model 8260 12-port switch is port optimized for low to midrange Packet Switched Backplanes (PSB) applications targeted for higher volume OEMs and Systems Integrators for use in Telecommunications, Military, Datacenter and Industrial products including switches, routers, multiplexers, media gateways, base stations, video broadcasting and network test equipment. "Our engineers have managed to take advantage of Broadcom's family of StrataXGS chips and other product variants which have resulted in substantial cost reductions, hence allowing us to pass along these savings to our high volume customers," said Randall Sucamele, VP of Business Development. It is well suited for support of embedded broadband applications including IMS, VoIP, IPTV, digital video, IP security, network monitoring, military applications, signal processing and test equipment. This product is available now with an OEM Developers Kit containing onboard firmware, device drivers, library functions, configuration management interfaces, loopback tests, benchmark programs, statistics and documentation. Pricing begins at $1345.00 for MOS of 50 units.
