Vehicle Safety 'Very' Important in Vehicle Choice, Say Car Buyers

A new and exclusive survey, by car buying advice and online price quote site BuyingAdvice.com, shows that almost eighty percent of car buyers say safety rating is 'very' important in their choice of a new vehicle.

(PRWEB) July 16, 2007 -- A new and exclusive survey, by car buying advice and online price quote site BuyingAdvice.com (www.BuyingAdvice.com), shows that almost eighty percent of car buyers say safety rating is 'very' important in their choice of a new vehicle.

Only 18 percent of those questioned said safety was of 'marginal' importance in their vehicle choice while a further two percent said it was not important at all to them.

The survey taken among 1,308 users of the site is the latest result from ongoing research on car buying trends conducted by the site that provides 50,000 competitive price quotes a month to online car buyers.

The sample was selected from those who had requested a price quote from the site and opted to participate. Each participant stated that they were within thirty days of purchasing a new vehicle and agreed to share their personal data with the organization. The survey was conducted during late June and early July 2007.

Despite the importance buyers placed on the issue of safety in the abstract, when asked if they knew the safety rating of the vehicle on which they had requested the price quote, only 52 percent of respondents said they knew that information, which is widely available on the Internet.

For the vehicle on which each participant requested a price quote, 62 percent said they knew what safety equipment was standard.

Most new cars come with a range of standard safety equipment with additional devices available as options or part of option packages. When asked whether they intended to purchase additional safety equipment, more than 3 out of four, 76 percent, of those questioned said that they would not be adding optional safety equipment to the vehicle they intended to purchase.
