KFx Medical Corporation Adds Dr. Ronald A. Navarro to Scientific Advisory Board

KFx Medical Corporation, a developer of minimally invasive percutaneous repair systems for rotator cuff repair, has added Dr. Ronald A. Navarro to its Scientific Advisor Board.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 12, 2007 -- KFx Medical Corporation (http://www.kfxmed.com/), a developer of minimally invasive percutaneous repair systems for rotator cuff repair, has added Dr. Ronald A. Navarro to its Scientific Advisor Board.

Mr. Tate Scott, President and CEO of KFx Medical said, "I am quite pleased that Dr. Navarro has joined our SAB. In addition to his skills as a surgeon he has been awarded the 2006 SCPMG Physician Exceptional Contribution Award which is given to one physician at each Kaiser Permanente Medical Center who best exemplifies a significant commitment to clinical expertise, leadership, teaching and volunteerism. He brings to us a unique vantage point from the renowned Kaiser Permanente Hospital system."

The KFx scientific board includes Drs. Christopher Behr, Eric Carson, James Esch, Matt France, Brad Giannotti, Richard Ryu, Joe Tauro, Jon 'JP Warner, and Russell Warren.

Dr. Navarro said of joining the KFx SAB, In using the KFx system for rotator cuff repair I was impressed by two key factors: First, by the quality and strength of the repair, and secondly, that the system takes less steps and hence less time than other repair systems."

Dr. Navarro earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois, College of Medicine. He then completed his Orthopaedic training at Harbor General --- UCLA Medical Center. He has also completed fellowships in shoulder, arthroscopy, and sports medicine from the renowned University of Pittsburgh, and in joint replacement from UCLA/Sepulveda VA Medical Centers.

Dr. Navarro joined Kaiser Permanente as an orthopedist and sports medicine specialist in 1997. He is now Chief of the Department of Orthopaedics and Director of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center, in Harbor City. He has just accepted a position to become Assistant to the Medical Director of the same South Bay Medical Center in charge of Surgical Services, effective January 2008. Dr. Navarro has authored a number of articles in knee and shoulder surgery in athletes, and he participates in research that has been presented nationally and internationally.

Over four million people seek medical advice for shoulder pain every year; torn rotator cuffs alone account for more than 500,000 surgeries annually and have traditionally required many weeks of rehabilitation. Traditional minimally invasive techniques, although promising -- patients typically experience less pain and regain full range of motion more quickly -- require surgeons to have advanced videoscopic skills. In contrast, KFx provides simple systems for surgeons while ensuring more anatomical repair for the patient, yielding better clinical outcomes.
