Specialists in Boardwalks in Wetlands Replaces Nature Walks at Pensacola Naval Air Station

The completed project includes 6-feet, 8-feet, and 10-feet wide boardwalks in three locations at the base: Bayou Grande Nature Trail, Trout Point Nature Trail and Lake Frederic. The four-month project was completed on June 14, 2007.

The project was initiated to rebuild the boardwalks after they were destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Designed by ValleyCrest Landscape Design in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, (valleycrest.com) and constructed by Nature Bridges, the boardwalks were built using the innovative top down construction method. With top down construction, all large equipment stays on top of the new structure during the entire building process. This method provides a long-lasting structure and helps to preserve the surrounding plant and animal habitats during and after construction.
