Sprinturf to Develop 11 New Soccer Fields at Randall's Island, New York Sprinturf continues momentum winning one of the largest new artificial turf fields and facilities in the NY Metro area. Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 17, 2007 -- Sprinturf (www.sprinturf.com), the leading U.S provider of synthetic turf systems, will develop and install 11 new artificial soccer fields at Randall's Island, New York City's last great undeveloped public park. The project, one of the largest of its kind in the Metropolitan area, will employ Sprinturf's all-rubber infill synthetic turf system and will cover over 1.1 million square feet. Development is slated to begin this month with an anticipated completion date of mid-2008.
"With over 700,000 people visiting Randall's Island Park every year, we are excited to offer them safe and durable soccer fields," said Stanly H. Greene, president and CEO of Sprinturf. "This park is an essential resource in New York and we look forward to being a part of that."
At Randall's Island Park, the majority of the playing fields are natural grass and therefore susceptible to inclement weather cancellations. To combat this, the Randall's Island project will feature complete under-field and perimeter drainage pipes, allowing for quick and thorough drying.
"When it rains the day before games, everything gets cancelled because everyone is worried about damaging the fields," said Dr. Gavril Pasternak, co-founder of Doc's NYC Youth Lacrosse League. "These synthetic fields should help eliminate inconvenient weather delays, cancellations and torn up fields. Plus, we'll be able to focus on what's most important - the athletes using the fields."
Not only will the Sprinturf soccer fields limit game cancellations, but they are also designed to help reduce injury amongst players. The artificial surfaces provide optimum shock absorption and attenuation (hardness) levels, reducing the amounts of stress and strain upon ankles, knees and other crucial body parts.
