About the Author Sharon Elwell has taught every grade from kindergarten through community college, with a concentration on students learning English. She has a BA in English from San Francisco State, and an MA in Bilingual Education from Western State College of Colorado. She is the author of several manuals for ESL instruction, including free and cheap materials for teaching ESL reach out and teach someone, and Match It! with Roy Clark of ProLingua Press. Her musings on driving between different schools were published under the title Driving Lessons by Meriwether Publications. She has also published children's books, including Jeremy and the Wappo and There's a Troll in our Room. She is currently teaching high school in Coalinga, California, where many of the students mentioned in this book are now juniors and seniors. Their most frequent response to her request for permission to use their stories is, "You remember that?" Fortunately for all of us, middle school memories fade quickly.
