Kosher Kilimanjaro: Religious Commitment Carries a College Student Up Africa's Highest Mountain

Adventures Within Reach hosts Brandeis student on Mt. Kilimanjaro this summer, as he climbs kosher.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) July 23, 2007 -- This August, Boulder travel company Adventures Within Reach will be hosting Brandeis University student Danny Glass on Mt. Kilimanjaro. This should seem routine, however Danny Glass, an NCAA runner, is no ordinary college student. He is an Orthodox Jew, and has chosen to keep kosher. Climbing Kilimanjaro is a very intense challenge, combined with the preparations to travel as an Orthodox Jew, Danny's journey is going to be that much more memorable.

"There is so much diversity within the traveling population these days, and we want to be able to accommodate and support anyone who wants to see the world," commented Robin Paschall, owner of Adventures Within Reach. "Danny Glass is an example for us all that anything is possible if we feel passionately enough about it."

Keeping kosher on the mountain does come with its complexities. "I can't eat meat, dairy or processed food. Additionally, I can't use pots, pans, dishes and silverware from the group," Glass states. "I'm going to have to bring my own utensils and eat fruits, vegetables, and some plain grains," Glass continued. Keeping with big challenges, last year Danny volunteered as a 7th grade teacher at an orphanage in Kenya. "I came across many of the same issues, but I made do fine," Danny states.

There are endless opportunities, no matter what restrictions people may have. Clearly, as long as there is a drive to do it, it is obtainable.
