Home DVD Expo Hits Vegas Annual meeting of DVD sub-distributors and retail DVD merchants. Los Vegas, NV (PRWEB) July 30, 2007 -- The beautiful Venetian hotel was again the setting for this powerhouse event. The home DVD market has become the fastest and most widely used home product in history. While sales are now static, home DVD is now a $33 billion home entertainment industry. The DVD retailers operate 20,000 retail outlets to buy/ or rent DVD's. 130 DVD sub-distributors and exhibitors showed their wares mostly in the Venetian Hotel luxury hotel suites. On stage celebrities included Ernest Borgnine, Margaret Cho and John Schneider of the Dukes of Hazard. According to the writer of this article John Robert of British American News, a internet news wire, the attendees did not seem to mind the 110 degree in Las Vegas during the Conference.
There was a high level panel of power users with a good Q & A session. Many power users still have a library of VHS tapes. These power users appeared to be no rush to buy the (2) new HD DVD players systems on the market today. These power users buy/ and rent a lot of DVD's weekly. Although pushed many power users did not feel the need to buy a more expensive DVD player and more expensive DVD's. Reading between the lines, the users feel that when watching a classic like Casablanca- the story will hold without a HD DVD player. The home consumer, may need a HD DVD player if the home consumer is watching a bunch of car crashes without a plot. Most of the power panelists want/ or have a large screen HD TV.
Power users also seemed comfortable with the size of DVD's for storage. Many of the users had 400 title libraries.
Think about it - if a DVD -was the size of a quarter- users would still have to catalogue the title and the movie description somewhere. A highlight of the ceremonies was a good- looking John Schneider performing a few songs on his guitar. The famous General Lee Charger was also on hand. John had recently completed a low budget feature road movie "COLLIER & COMPANY" which he produced . In order to finance a sequel, John decided to sell the General Lee Charger. He listed the famous car on E-Bay on a standard 10-day listing. After about 5 days, E-Bay put the car on E-Bay Motor News cover. The bid prices climbed vertically. The bidding finally topped out at $10 million but the buyer balked and didn't complete the sale. This is now the subject of a lawsuit. John and a friend composed and recorded a humorous song called roughly "On the Cover Of the E-Bay Motor News". One line has John singing 'I was going to buy my mother her own zip code'. John gave out free CD's of the song and Expo attendee's now have a COLLECTORS COPY. One evening the Expo attendee's were shuttled to the Palm's Hotel famous MOON club on the 55th floor. The Palm's is across the freeway from the famous Vegas strip.
This 2-story club with outdoor viewing area's offered the best view of the famous Vegas Strip in town. Since club patrons are looking from approx. 1/2 mile away, the lights and signs blow patrons away. In conclusion, a good time was had by all Expo Attendees!
