Sparta Volume 3 No. 1 -- Discovering Ancient Spartan and Greek History

The first issue of the Sparta Journal -- the magazine's third volume -- continues to be a unique journey into ancient Spartan history. Markoulakis Publications, publishing the Sparta (ISSN 1751-0007) periodical.

Sparta's current issue will continue to provide the ancient Greek history enthusiast, student and scholar, with an extensive discussion about the real causes of the Peloponnesian War by Edward Tsoukalides.

Panagiota Markoulaki studies the environmental ethos in the Archaic Lakonia by the interpretation of the pottery iconography dated back the 6th century B.C.

An examination and comparison of the ancient Sparta and the Fascist regimes and ideologies of Italy and Germany in the 30s. Paul Houston seeks to reveal the points and elements that differ and /or match in modern history's democracy, fascism and communism with the oligarchic Spartan constitution.

Additionally the current issue will reveal in an article by Nikolaos Markoulakis the reason why we should remember Leonidas. An article that studies the political and military actions of the Spartan king and searches for the reasons for the king's 'last stand'.

Nick Quartley is in the footsteps of eminent Spartan general Brasidas. A unique footage of all the areas and regions of modern Greece in which Brasidas and his freed helots fought against Sparta's biggest enemy Athens.
