Northport 58 Recreates Elegance of Picnic Boats with Modern Design and Materials Seaforth Marine Group limited edition high-end, luxury classic combines sleek styling with extreme speed for a select few. Maple Ridge, BC (PRWEB) January 22, 2003 Seaforth Marine Group has completed planning for the construction of the Northport 58Â, a limited edition series of motor yachts that updates the sleek Âpicnic boat designs of the 1920s and 30s using advanced materials, company President James announced today. Seaforth, located on the banks of the Fraser River in Maple Ridge, a suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, expects to launch the first Northport 58 by early 2004. The original picnic boats functioned more as launches than yachts. They sped from city to cottage, up rivers and estuaries, across bays and gulfs, to islands and remote coves in sleek style as the sea-going equivalent of the classic, high-end, luxury automobiles of the day. They gave their owners not only a quick getaway, but also a grand on the water setting for luxurious weekend or weeklong excursions. The Northport 58 recreates and refines these vessels legendary elegance and luxury for a select few, for with the launch of the last of the limited edition, the molds will be destroyed. It is, in essence, the Bentley of the yachting world, built expressly for those who insist upon owning the very best. ÂThose who have seen the renderings for the Northport 58 invariably comment on the beautiful lines, says the boatÂs designer, Mike Harling. ÂWhen I tell them the materials and methods weÂre using, they become even more intrigued. We believe weÂre creating a modern classic with up-to-date materials that minimize maintenance and maximize vessel lifespan. We know of no equivalent yacht available today that offers such a combination of speed, style and safety. Owners can choose one of two hull materials: fibreglass or cold molded wood, diagonally planked and sealed with epoxy. The laminate schedule will ensure that the Northport 58 is as strong as she is elegant. Both types of hull will be painted the deep, lustrous blue of many of the original picnic boats. Owners can choose either mahogany or teak planking for the topside superstructure, which is also epoxy sealed. In the Northport 58 interior, rich mahogany panelling with classic white ceilings, teak trim recreate, period brass hardware, and red button leather furniture recreate the luxurious, leisurely air of picnic boats of the past. The cool glow of the helmÂs state-of-the-art electronics counterpoint the warmth of the traditional finishing materials of the absolute finest quality. Below, there are two large staterooms, each with private head with granite countertops; the forward has a queen bed, the aft a double. With twin 1300 hp ManÂs and very clean lines, the Northport 58 will do 34 knots  ideal for extending the range of weekend excursions. Tank testing at BC Research indicates that she is finely balanced and will provide owners with a dry, safe, and very comfortable ride at every speed.
