Another Way to Soar With Hawk Relay

Hawk Relay is launching a new feature that enables text relay users who wish to speak for themselves to do so via Internet Relay.

Sioux Falls, SD (PRWEB) September 14, 2007 -- Hawk Relay today announces the launch of a Voice Carry Over (VCO) feature, complementing its well-established Text and AIM Relay. Hawk Relay deaf, hard of hearing and speech disabled customers now have the option of speaking for themselves directly to their hearing counterpart while partaking in the benefits of Internet-based Text and AIM Relay.

VCO users connect to Text Relay via the Internet from their computers. They type in the number they wish to call, as well as their own phone number. The Communication Assistant (CA) then dials the to-call number and bridges the VCO user's phone with the called number. The CA translates the hearing person's spoken words into text back to the caller's computer. The caller, using VCO, speaks for himself directly to the called party without any involvement from the CA.

Samuel Hawk, founder and president of Hawk Relay, exults, "We continue to develop innovative ways to close the gap between the common telephone call and the relay call. Deaf and hard of hearing people nowadays are extremely sophisticated in telecommunications--often more so than the general public. As such, they expect the quickest and most convenient avenues to reach, and converse with, their hearing counterparts. Hawk Relay is proud to be at the forefront of the effort to provide such a level of sophistication."

Internet-based Text Relay holds several benefits over traditional TTY-based relay. "Computers are far more prevalent than TTYs," Hawk points out. "They allow for more of the conversation to be seen on their screens. Finally, users can make multiple calls at once, or initiate conference calls---they can even browse the Internet while on hold with the doctor's office!"

VCO users wanting to use Hawk Relay's Text Relay service can simply go to www.HawkRelay.com/IP and enter the number they wish to dial, as well as their phone number to be used to speak directly to the called party. Those who prefer to use AIM Relay simply provide their own phone number when giving the communication assistant the number of the to-call party.
