Yugoslavia Survivor Recounts Her "Escape from Despair" in New Memoir

The new book "Escape from Despair" recalls a family's struggle to survive poverty, sickness and an abusive father under the dictatorship of former communist Yugoslavia.

(PRWEB) September 27, 2007 -- Author Katarina Tepesh tells an inspiring story in her memoir, "Escape from Despair." The book is a moving portrayal of her family's struggle to survive poverty, sickness and an abusive father, under the dictatorship of former communist Yugoslavia.

Tepesh, one of six children, recalls the physical and emotional trauma she experienced before her family left her father and fled to America. Once in America, the family tries to put their life back together and cope with the trauma of their past.

Besides short stories, Katarina Tepesh has written essays such as 'Yearning for Freedom in a Land of the Free', as well as numerous articles such as 'Celebrating Women's History Month', 'A Walking Tour of Croatian History in New York', 'Status of the Slovenian Women', 'Andrew Bogut Interview', 'A Profile of the Visinski Family', and 'V-Day, Stop Violence Against Women' which have been published. She has also written film and book reviews, as well as a series of articles on tennis and on women's issues.

Tepesh is a member of both the International Women's Writing Guild and the Storytellers - International Toastmasters Club, and facilitated the monthly Croatian Book Club.

She currently lives in New York City, where she works for a non-profit company and does volunteer work.
