NC Coalition for Adoption Reform Presents 'Unlocking the Heart of Adoption' by Sheila Ganz

Unlocking the Heart of Adoption is a 56 minute documentary which bridges the gap between birth and adoptive families through diverse personal stories of adoptees, birthparents and adoptive parents in same race and transracial adoptions interwoven with the filmmaker's story as a birthmother revealing the enormous complexities in their lives with fascinating historical background.

Raleigh/Durham/Winston Salem/Greensboro/Fayetteville, N.C. (PRWEB) October 9, 2007 -- November is National Adoption Awareness Month, and the NC Coalition for Adoption Reform (NCCAR) -- in conjunction with several adoption agency support groups and other non-profit organizations -- will show "Unlocking the Heart of Adoption" by Sheila Ganz.

Sheila Ganz is the writer, producer, director, principal camera and editor of this terrific documentary. She is also a birthmother, who's story started in 1968. After completing high school and while attending the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Sheila was raped on a hot August Saturday and became pregnant. Since abortion was not yet legalized, this was not an option. After giving birth to her daughter, Sheila became an activist for adoption reform. In 1988 after 14 years in the making, Sheila launched her filmmaking career in writing, directing, editing and producing this documentary.

After every showing, there will be a discussion period of the documentary, along with an update of North Carolina's new adoption legislation which goes into effect on January 1, 2008. This new legislation will allow licensed North Carolina adoption agencies to act as confidential intermediaries between consenting adults.

Please join us for one of the showings, and you will see why people like Adam Pertman the executive director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute stated: "Sheila Ganz's documentary provides compelling profound insights into prople whom most of us hardly understand at all. I wish everyone could see this film and learn from it. Adoption - and our culture - would certainly become more compassionate and enlightened if they did"

Dates, times and locations of viewings of this documentary may be found on the NCCAR website at http://adoptionreform-nc.org.
