Tiger Woods' 1997 Masters Golf Bag, Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb Baseball Bats in Auction

Historic game-used sports memorabilia, including the autographed golf bag used by Tiger Woods in his first Masters victory, as well as sports equipment or jerseys personally used by Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, Gayle Sayers, Roger Staubach, Wayne Gretzky and others, will be offered in a multi-million dollar auction by Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas, October 26 and 27, 2007.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 22, 2007 -- The golf bag Tiger Woods used during his first Masters Tournament victory and baseball bats used by Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb are among the items in a multi-million dollar sports treasures memorabilia auction that will be conducted October 26 and 27, 2007 by Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas, Texas (www.ha.com).

"This is the bag used for carrying Tiger Woods' clubs when he became the youngest golfer to win the Masters, at age 21, and became the first African-American to do it ten years ago," said Chris Ivy Director of the Sports Collectibles division of Heritage.

Woods originally donated it to the South Carolina Junior Golf Association when he couldn't fulfill a scheduled visit immediately after his historic, 18-under-par victory at the Masters. The black and white leather Titleist bag has the name, "TIGER WOODS," embroidered in big gold letters, and below it is a large autograph by Woods in gold ink.

"This extraordinary bag has been in several fund-raising charity auctions and raffles since Woods donated it. The current owner, Joe LaGrossa of Haddonfield, New Jersey, acquired it in a raffle to benefit a Boys and Girls Club chapter in Hilton Head," said Ivy. "Online bidding has started at $15,000."

Other historic sports memorabilia items in the two-day auction that will be conducted in Dallas and online (www.HA.com) include:

A New York Yankees grey road uniform worn in (circa) 1933 by Lou Gehrig (pre-sale estimate, $300,000);

A bat used during the 1921 and 1922 baseball seasons by Yankees home run king, Babe Ruth ($150,000);

A bat used during the 1923 and 1924 seasons by the legendary Detroit Tigers slugger, Ty Cobb ($75,000);

A jersey worn by Hank Aaron in 1965 during the Braves' last season in Milwaukee and later given by him to budding star, Bill Madlock ($40,000);

A 1960's era road uniform worn by Chicago Bears Hall of Fame player, Gayle Sayers, ($10,000 and up);

An early 1970's home uniform including jersey, pants, socks and cleats worn by Dallas Cowboys star quarters, Roger Staubach ($10,000);

And a 1995 home jersey worn by and autographed by Los Angeles Kings hockey star, Wayne Gretzky, that he gave to one of the team's locker room attendants that year ($10,000 and up).
