National Massage Therapy Awareness Week

The American Massage Therapy Association, Indiana Chapter, invites the public to celebrate National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, October 21-27, 2007.

Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) October 21, 2007 -- The American Massage Therapy Association, Indiana Chapter, invites the public to celebrate National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, October 21-27, 2007. Indiana recently became the 38th State to regulate massage therapy! As of July 1, 2007 a therapist must meet educational and other requirements to be called a "Certified Massage Therapist" or practice "massage therapy". Massage Therapy involves the systematic manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm and stress.

Therapeutic Massage has been shown to improve the function of the circulatory, lymphatic, immune and nervous systems. It may also improve the rate at which the body recovers from injury and illness.

There are many forms of massage, including Swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular, and sports. A therapist will ask intake questions pertaining to lifestyle, medical history, stress levels, painful areas and session goals.

As the mechanism to apply for State Certification may not be in place until Spring 2008, it is still important that you interview a potential therapist regarding their qualifications.
