New PD-LD Patent Delivers Smaller, Cheaper Volume Bragg Grating Technology

Latest innovation could bring VBG to wider array of industries.

Pennington, NJ (PRWEB) November 1, 2007 -- PD-LD, Inc., the worldwide leader in Volume Bragg Grating® (VBG®) technology, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded it exclusive rights for a new advancement, ensuring the company's position at the forefront of VBG innovation and application.

The latest patent, No. 7,273,683, was issued Sept. 25, 2007 to protect a new use of PD-LD's proprietary Volume Bragg Grating technology. The discovery opens the door to significantly lower device costs, while packing robust performance into a smaller size. Improvements to the already flexible technology promise to extend its appeal beyond the telecommunications and display fields PD-LD is best known for serving.

"PD-LD's topflight collection of physicists and electrical and chemical engineers constantly strives to anticipate and provide solutions for our customers' needs," said PD-LD CEO, Dr. Vladimir Ban. "This patent reflects our vision and creativity while making VBG technology an economically feasible option for a wider range of industries. No one else can offer this type of product"

The Pennington, N.J. -based group says the miniaturized VBG element is likely to find homes beyond the optical communications, automotive, and Raman Spectroscopy fields already embracing the technology. Applications in airport security checkpoints and homeland security threat detection, as well as various medical and military uses, are believed to lie just beyond the horizon.

"PD-LD utilizes advanced VBG chips with outstanding resolution, to increase versatility and performance of the elegant new cell phone-size portable Raman Spectrometer," said Dr. Boris Volodin, PD-LD's Director of Research and Development. "We've sheared the price of a portable Raman Spectrometer by up to ten times, making it the perfect solution for applications that don't require the high number of channels found in typical spectrometers."
