(PRWEB) November 13, 2007 -- Spanish native Fernando Zaplana (Bandsman) recently received the honor of being named winner by the Song of the Year ( http://www.songoftheyear.com/ ) songwriting contest. Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1's Save the Music Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music including many Grammy Award winners.

Song of the Year is excited to recognize Fernando Zaplana for his exceptional songwriting ability for the song "Botafoch". Fernando competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honor. When asked what inspired the song Fernando commented that it was inspired in the Botafoch lighthouse of Ibiza, Spain, closed to the author's house, in the Mediterranean sea.

Born in 1962 in Cartagena, Spain, he is a songwriter, with more than sixty composed and registered songs in several styles like Jazz, Classic, Bossa-nova, Lounge, Symphonic, Disco, Pop, Electronic, Rock, Blues, etc. Although his main influence is Jazz, his music has the same Mediterranean influences than the author. Many of his songs can be classified as "music for films".

Currently Fernando is concentrating on his songwriting career while hoping to get additional record or publishing deals. In fact, several of his songs have been licensed recently with publishing companies in USA, Canada and Australia.
