New Research Proves Full90 Padded Headbands Reduce the Risk of Head Injury in Soccer Many of the serious head impacts in soccer which can cause concussions come from incidental impacts such has head to knee, head to elbow, head to ground. (San Diego, CA) -- Many of the serious head impacts in soccer which can cause concussions come from incidental impacts such has head to knee, head to elbow, head to ground. New research from Dynamic Research Inc. (DRI) proves that Full90 Padded Headbands reduce the risk of head injuries from those incidental impacts.
Dr. Terry Smith of DRI tested 3 types of incidental impacts common in soccer including head to head, head to goal post and head to knee. The impacts were designed to create approximately the same levels of impact as occur in a soccer match. Only the most advanced techniques were used to study both linear and rotational acceleration forces including the use of head form dummies like those used in automobile testing. The research found that Full90 Headbands can reduce the rotational acceleration of many common impacts in soccer by more than 50% and linear acceleration by as much as 50%.
This research adds new insight to a previous study published by Naunheim - Does Soccer Headgear Attenuate the Impact When Heading a Soccer Ball?" from Washington University Saint Louis, which specifically studied the effects of heading the ball at low speeds. In this case Naunheim concluded that at these low speeds, Soccer headgear provides little protection."
Naunheim, also in her abstract, says, ...statistically significant decreases (in impacts) are present at the highest speeds and pressures tested, suggesting the headbands may play a role in decreasing impact for more forceful blows."
The research conducted by DRI takes the Washington University Study one step further and tests padded headbands in situations where impact levels are at a potentially concussive level. This information can help design the best product to protect the millions of players who play competitive soccer and are susceptible to high impact incidental/accidental contact to the head," stated Dennis Piper VP, Corporate Affairs for Full90 Sports, Inc.
